Blood Horses is an exciting collaboration between artist Paddy Lennon and poet Moyra Donaldson culminating in an exhibition of drawings and the presentation of a suite of poems.

Blood Horses tells the stories of The Byerley Turk, Darley Arabian and Godolphin Barb, the three founding stallions of the thoroughbred horse. Horses are an integral part of both artists’ lives. Their profound knowledge of their subject is evident in the work - in charcoal and in the printed word.

The results of this exciting partnership may be seen in this exhibition of wonderful largescale drawings by equestrian artist Lennon, opening on April 20th at 6pm, where we will also enjoy readings from ‘Blood Horses’ by Moyra Donaldson.

MOYRA DONALDSON is an award-winning and critically acclaimed poet from Co Down. She has published six collections of poetry, Snakeskin Stilettos, Beneath the Ice, The Horse’s Nest and Miracle Fruit, from Lagan Press, Belfast and an American edition of Snakeskin Stilettos, from CavanKerry Press, New Jersey which was shortlisted for a Foreword Book of the Year Award. Her awards include the Women’s National Poetry Competition, The Allingham Award, Cuirt New Writing Award, North West Words Poetry Award and the Belfast Year of the Writer Award.

Her Selected Poems was published in 2012 by Liberties Press, Dublin and a new collection, The Goose Tree, was published in 2014, also from Liberties Press. A new collection, Hold to Air, is forthcoming from Doire Press in Spring 2019.

PADDY LENNON was born in Inchicore, Dublin in 1955. In 1980 he received a Diploma in Fine Art from the City & Guilds Art School in London. He has lived in Dublin, London, Connemara, Mexico, Spain and now resides in Wexford. His works are in Private and Corporate Collections worldwide.

“A strong and integral part of my Art Practise is my drawing and my understanding of the principles of good draughtsmanship, observation, structure and discipline. They form the unseen frame on which I support my painting.

As in music my paintings express the inexplicable. They resonate with the reflective observer demanding an emotional response in the same way music would to the ear. If observed in a sensitive way the viewer will see my work as an expression and a stimulus to the imaginative life. No painting stops with itself. There is no completion as such. Each painting is a continuation of previous work and is taken up and renewed in successive works...”
