Artist Statement

My work as an artist is to record, document, communicate and celebrate life or aspects of our lives from my perspective. My aim is to make a personal artistic comment on common experiences through my visual art and therefore hopefully engaging the imagination and senses of people who view my work. My intention is to communicate with the viewer by evoking emotions or enticing memories through my paintings or just give them a pleasant and interesting visual experience. While my work can be semi abstract and conceptual, I try to make it accessible through use of recognisable imagery and symbolism.  Although my work is informed from personal experience, my objective is to share and reveal aspects of the theme of my project while leaving it open to the viewers own interpretation.

I enjoy using a variety of materials together to achieve texture and depth by layering and combining mixed media. In previous projects I have used a combination of oil paint, glue, pollyfilla, image transfer, French polish, needle work and embroidery,' and I have on occasion dyed my canvas prior to stretching.

Depending on subject matter of a particular project, my chosen materials aim to resonate the theme but my technique and methodology is fairly consistent.
