Joan Hogan is one of Galway's major artists, a graduate of Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology. She draws her inspiration from the River Corrib, the sea and her environs. She explores the energy that surrounds us by creating semi-abstract landscapes through the media of oils and acrylics. Her paintings are intensely physical with vibrant energy in the material. She challenges the viewer not only to look at the painting but to step beyond the mere image into a world that appears to hang between the intervals of time and space. The emotion, gentleness, passion, compassion and positive energy all come through in her work. She has exhibited her work successfully throughout Ireland. " I believe that Joan Hogan is the master of her own beliefs and vision, in visual terms." (John Behan R.H.A. October 2004) SELECTED EXHIBITIONS Iontas Small Works Competition, Sligo, Limerick and Belfast. Artists Against Racism, RHA., Dublin Art Essence Exhibition, Galway. N.D.A.D. Graduate Exhibition.
