Fidelma Dunne O'Higgins

Fidelma Dunne O'Higgins

Marketing Executive, science graduate and mother of three, Fidelma Dunne O'Higgins who grew up in Galway, always wanted to paint in oils, but never seemed to have the time to learn how. That was until she started dreaming of nothing else but painting and colour, and in 1998 she commenced oil painting classes at the Paint Box Studio in Galway and has never looked back.

Fidelma's hobby and passion for art since her second level school days served her well in her painting apprenticeship with Miriam Cronin, giving her a great foundation from which she could develop her own style. Painting now on her own, Fidelma finds the subject matter for her pictures in the people and places that are dear to her, she paints from the heart exploring light and form in micro-snapshots.

In January 2001 Fidelma held her first solo exhibition at the Galway City Library entitled 'Inside Out'. In this exhibition vibrant colours and female forms expressed the message of emotional turmoil from present and past experiences.

Fidelma's second solo exhibition in 2004 called 'Exploration', by contrast, explored both the medium of watercolour and the movement of water on the beach at Inis Oirr in the Aran Islands. Tranquil scenes with muted colours recording a more settled period in the artist's life. She has sold many pictures painted from images captured whilst visiting the same island and is currently working on further images in oil on canvas.
