Michelle Greaney

Michelle Greaney

A native local artist, Michelle has been painting for the last ten years. She started painting in her head before she ever picked up a paintbrush, continually observing her surroundings in close detail and looking at colour and texture until finally her aunt bought her a set of oil paints. She taught herself to paint through trail and error, taking advantage of living close to the major London galleries to observe the works of the masters and learning from their techniques.

She studied Design in England and when she returned home to Ireland, she attended the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology to study Fine Art.

At the moment, she is concentrating on the beautiful landscape of the bogs. "A lot of the time we take this beauty for granted but if you look with a new eye there is so much to see and to explore. The bogs to me are like a huge tapestry offering in colour and textures, the interesting rock formations, the plant life, the habitat supports and the influence man has on the topography of the land."
