Barbara Jennings

Born in Dublin in 1960, Barbara Jennings graduated in Textile Design from Galway RTC in 1982, before winning a Council of Europe Scholarship to Norway studying Textiles and Costumes in the State School of Art & Design, Oslo.

During the time in Oslo, Barbara started experimenting in paper making and from this her art evolved.

Making her own paper from material such as bark, cotton, waste paper and other materials found in woodlands. She boils the recipes for hours in order to break down the fibre, sieves and presses the paper. When she is satisfied with the structure of the paper it is allowed to dry naturally. The drying process can take days. Her paper is now ready for use. Barbara then paints the paper with Indian ink and sometimes embroiders the pieces.

These unique fibre-art paints have been exhibited in Galway, Oslo, France and Dublin.
