Jesus Orizco Reina
Jesús Orozco Reina was born in 1965 in Ceuta, a Spanish colony in North Africa. He studied at the Fine Arts College “Santa Isabel de Hungria” in Seville in 1989 and in 1991 he was invited for residency where he created work in the open air protesting the dumping of rubbish in the environment.
In 1992 he was invited by The Rafael Ortiz Gallery, Seville to paint a mural in Pabellon de Andalucia as part of EXPO ’92. He was selected to participate in a Lithography workshop directed by Master of Lithography, Don Herbert, which took place in Arteleku, San Sebastian in 1994. In 1995, he won first prize for best Artist under 35 years old at the Museo del Grabado Espanol Contemporeneo in Marbella and received an Honorary Mention for the Print Prize “Maximo Ramos” in Lugo, Spain.
He worked with the Woodcut Master Antonio Canet and together they founded the Print workshop BURIL in Badojoz, Spain. In 1998, he founded Safi Baraka Dyeing and Printing workshop with Joanna Thompson, a textile artist specialist in textile dyeing. In 2000, he carried out a project to research the Promotion of Public Art in the Natural Park Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche in Andalucia, Huelva, Spain. He founded the Art Workshop “ARTE-OTRO” with Joanna Thompson in Galaroza in 2003 and carried out an Arts workshop as part of the Public Art Project. In 2004, he was invited to give Art workshops in various colleges, schools, educational conferences and was also invited to the Alternative Art Festival to organise and give workshops in painting, printing and drawing.
Towards the end of 2006 he moved to Co. Donegal and at present he lives in Ennis, Co. Clare.
