Alexandra van Tuyll

Alexandra was born in 1943 in Utrecht, The Netherlands. She travelled widely before settling in Ireland in 1977. She taught music, art and languages. Since 1966 she has been involved in teaching- as well as performing- the keyboard in Canada, the Netherlands, Indonesia and Ireland.

"I now live on Achill Island and paint full-time. My subject matter is nature and its many moods: my work is heavily influenced by classical music ("we are the music makers, we are the dreamers of dreams" Elgar/O'Shaughnessy)

I seek out the balance or stress between the place where we physically are and that of our far-away dreams.

My current project is a pictorial presentation of some of the poetry of Kathleen Raine.

I exhibit on an on-going basis in leading galleries in Ireland (Kenny/Galway; Greenlane/Dingle; Kilcock; Western light/Achill etc) and I have had solo shows in Ireland, the Netherlands and USA.

My work is mixed media on paper and canvas".
