Exhibition of Paintings

Joan Webb is a traditional pure watercolourist and has been painting for some forty years. She has always had a great fascination for water, rocks and trees and has exhibited with The Royal Hibernian Academy, The Royal West of England Academy, The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and The Bankside Gallery, London. This is her ninth solo exhibition at The Kenny Gallery.

Joan says - "I have always loved the bog landscape in Connemara, but found it difficult to paint. I knew it well in Spring and Summer but only saw its incredible Autumn colour for the first time in November '98 and found it very stimulating. I intend to return each year in November and struggle with the weather. It is easier to work in watercolour, as at least one does not have to use an easel and keep a tight hold to prevent one's board blowing away! The glowing colour and the necessity of working quickly, caused me to adopt a much more positive palate than usual and, I think, this has resulted in a general strengthening of my work in the past two years. I also feel much more aware of the changing character of the bog in the Spring and Summer and it is now one of my favourite painting sites".
