BERNARD DOOLEY
Bernard Dooley is visual artist based in Galway City. Bernard likes to work in acrylics painting mainly from photographs. He graduated from GMIT, Cluain Mhuire, Galway in 2014, with a BA level 7 degree in art and design and in 2016 with a level 8 Honours Degree in Fine Art. He is currently studying for an MA in Creative practice. He has been involved in several different group exhibitions, such as GMIT student shows in 2014 and 2016 and also, festivals such as the Galway Fringe, The Boyle Arts Festival, Birr Vintage Arts Week and the Shorelines Arts Festival in Portumna. He has also had two solo exhibitions, in 2015 and 2017 both of which took place in the Galway City Library. In my studio practice, I like to focus mainly on figurative and portrait painting. Using photography, I try to capture a moments of people involved in everyday activities, which I then use as reference within the development of my paintings. The subjects that I use vary, from members of my own family, such as myself and my parents, to members of the public, whom I observe in the city of Galway, where I reside. By doing this I am offering the viewer the opportunity to view everyday happenings from an alternative perspective.
