David Fahy
David was born in Derry in 1959. He did not receive any formal art training and is self-taught.In his teenage years he joined the local Art Society where he was able to learn from demonstrations by prominent artists such as Arthur Twells, Derek Hill and Neil Shawcross. He remained a member for almost thirty years, where he met his wife and fellow artist, Niamh. During this time he won various prizes within the society including the Keys Cup for best painting on a number of occasions.
David's paintings are mostly landscape, taking his inspiration from the rugged landscape and turbulent skies of Donegal. To help obtain this ruggedness he began to experiment with the palette knife.
This interest in the versatility and freedom of the palette knife has led to David giving regular demonstrations and workshops in this art form.
For the last seven years he has been leading recreational art classes three evenings per week at Eden Place Art's Centre in Derry and during the summer months he can be seen leading groups of painters at various locations around counties Derry and Donegal.
Along with his wife, he continues to exhibit regularly in Derry, Donegal and Galway and is currently working towards his next solo exhibition.
His work is held in various collections in Ireland, UK, USA, Spain and Australia.
David is married with three children and continues to live in Derry.
