Niamh Fahy

Niamh Fahy was born in Derry in 1961. She received B.A. Honours degree in 3-dimensional design specialising in jewellery design, from the University of Ulster, Belfast. On leaving Art College in 1984 she taught art to 16 year olds in Derry Youth & Community Workshops.

She then trained as a window designer fro Boots the chemist, before marrying and having her three children. While caring for them she continued painting and drawing and has sold on commission. She exhibited her work along with her husband and various other artists in galleries in Derry, Donegal and Galway.

She achieved certificate for Children's book illustration from London Art College. Over the past eight years Niamh has been leading workshops and tutoring recreational art to adults and children in Eden arts centre in Derry.

Her work is varied. Niamh especially enjoys the unpredictability of watercolours and the texture of pastel. She also works in pen & ink which introduces a delicacy and character that is particular to this medium. Niamh's themes characteristically capture family themes and relationships, homes, gardens and children playing. In recent years she has developed her work and has begun to experiment with landscape.
