Sally McKenna

Sally McKenna is a graduate in Art from Arizona State University and has been a professional artist and sculptor for over twenty years. Her paintings and sketches serve to inspire her sculpture and record her travel. Sally's work is a fusion of fibre with welded metal - a unique use of varied materials from papers and paint to rewoven canvas and hand loomed fibre encased by steel, copperor brass.

Her work is exhibited in galleries in the US and Ireland. She & her husband Ray Cooper came to Ireland in 1993 and, five years later, first set eyes on what was to be her home in Kiltimagh, Co. Mayo. Their vision to restore the Glore Mill, which was built in the early 1900's, was realised in August 2000. It now serves as an Art Centre where the Glore river flows gently by Sally and her studio.

Her largest sculptures travel around the world on the Sun and Dawn Princess cruise ships and she has created wall sculpture for city council offices in Phoenix, Tempe and Glendale, Arizona. Several hospitals in the United States include Sally's work in their permanent collections, St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix and JFK Memorial Hospital in Edison New Jersey. In 1980 the Olympic games in Lake Placid, New York commissioned a large wall piece titled "Stonehenge Solstice".
