Cyril O’Flaithearta
Cyril O'Flaithearta is a native of Inis Mor, the largest of the Aran Islands, on the west coast of Ireland.Cyril has seen the island go through many changes over the past twenty years- from getting water at the well as a young boy to the modernization of the island and the introduction of electricity. His experience of island life has given him a special insight into Irish rural life.
Cyril was very interested in art throughout his school going years and having been denied entry to the National College of Art & Design, he satisfied his passion and love of art by joining a local island-based Art Group.
Having spent 4 years with this unique Art group, his sheer determination to pursue a career in art led him to take a course at Ormonde College, Kilkenny.
Cyril's work has been compared to that of the great Irish contemporary artist Paul Henry, but without the romance. He has had several successful exhibitions throughout his young career and his latest work has been influenced by time spent on Finis, a deserted island off the coast of Connemara.
Island life has given Cyril a special insight into the landscapes and the light changes in the west of Ireland and this is reflected throughout his work.
