Cliona Quigley
Cliona Quigley, born in 1982 and native of Co Wexford, graduated from the National College of Art and Design in 2004 with a degree in Art Education. Having specialised in Textile Design, she has experimented extensively in freestyle textile art. She has also worked in various media such as printmaking, collage, graphite, acrylic, and manual and digital photography. Her work leans towards the more graphic art elements as there is always a huge emphasis placed on line and shape throughout. Currently, she is focusing on painting. Her work portrays a unity between the organic forms found in nature and the graphic qualities found in contemporary life. Based in the West of Ireland, she is inspired by the ever-changing moods of the landscape and how this affects our interaction with nature. She experienced a vast difference in landscape from travelling in Central America, which inspired a new found awe of her native Irish landscape.
Cliona exhibited her work in the Wexford Arts Centre in 2005 under the title 'Cityscape' where she explored the graphic elements of city life. She designed books for the Wexford Book Exhibition in 2002 and 2003, which toured nationally and internationally. Cliona has also set up and managed her own creative jewellery business 'Cool Jools' since 2000, commissioning original pieces as well as selling pieces in local gift shops.
She enjoys photography as a hobby and it is an important aid to her art. Subject matters that interest her most are outdoor sports such as windsurfing, sailing and surfing. Her love for the ocean and beach is coupled with her interest in human interaction with this part of nature; and where the opportunity occurs she likes to catch a wave or two!
